Oxford United Await New Hybrid XtraGrass Pitch at Kassam Stadium

GreenFields will begin work at the start of June to install one of our XtraGrass pitches at the Kassam Stadium, home to Oxford United Football Club, and London Welsh Rugby Club. XtraGrass is a hybrid system which incorporates the reinforcement of natural grass with artificial turf; generating a high wear capacity capable of delivering up to 1000 hours per annum, and reducing the number of playing surface related injuries.

The stadium, which has a 12,500 capacity, is named after Firoz Kassam; a businessman and former chairman who bought the club in 1999 and hosted its first football match on 4 August 2001. Oxford United compete in the Sky Bet League 2, against 24 other clubs including Wimbledon and Portsmouth, and ended the previous season thirteenth in the league. Since 2012, London Welsh Rugby Club have played their home matches at the Kassam Stadium. They currently compete in the Rugby Championship League.
